The Cajun Swinky

We have loved New Orleans far longer than we have been in the LifeStyle… the food, the music, the magical atmosphere.  Once we got into the Lifestyle and discovered the annual gatherings, it just got better.  So as we got into creating our own special drinks, and as the anniversary of our favorite annual event came, and then went, under the party pooper of Covid, we decided it was fitting to make a drink representing our love of this amazing place.  
 
This is a lowball that combines a few classic New Orleans flavors that you don’t normally find in a glass.  The base alcohol is our beloved Capt. Morgan Private Stock, one of the best rum’s we have ever found, and that statement comes after a lot of blind taste tests in the last year.  Then, it gets its Nawlins kick in the sweets department with an addition of praline infused vodka.  While there is a praline vodka you can buy, we make our own by crushing a real praline (homemade, of course) into a cup of good vodka, and putting it all into a small Italian salad dressing mixing bottle, shaking it vigorously, and letting it infuse a few hours.  Since pralines have butter and pecans in them, this will end up being a cloudy, gritty, questionable looking drink that will leave sediment on the inside of your glass… fear not, it is amazing.  A bit of 43 rounds out that sweet flavor profile.  Then, we use cold dark roast coffee with chicory, another New Orleans staple, as the bitters.  Finally, take another praline, take a large pecan chunk out of it, and drop it in the glass, both as garnish (no one will see, the drink is very cloudy) but as an awesome surprise after that last swallow… it really finishes the experience off wonderfully.
 
We were honestly amazed at how well this all came together, and it is a treat to be enjoyed very occasionally.  We hope you love it as much as we do.
 

Recipe

In a lowball glass, put…
  • 1 large ice cubed
  • 2 oz Capt Morgan Private Reserve Rum
  • 1 oz Praline Infused Vodka
  • 1/2 oz licor 43
  • 1/2 oz cold dark roast coffee with chicory
  • Optionally, drop in a Pecan half (preferably from a Praline)
Stir and enjoy!
