Swinky 103 Workshop: A Beginners Guide to Bedroom Rope Play

Beginner Rope

What is this about?

Swinky 103: A Beginners Guide to Bedroom Rope Play is our workshop for curious couples (well, honestly, for anyone curious) about getting into rope play in the bedroom. We frame it this way on purpose… this is not a class on suspension, or predicaments, or strenuous, challenging rope artistry. This class is designed for someone relatively new, who wants to incorporate rope into a more sensual setting. We teach a few basic knots and ties, keep the complexity low, but then show how with a little creativity and imagination, those few skills can have many many uses. The entire workshop is presented from a “Tie Me Down” perspective, with an eye toward being fun, romantic, and safe.

What Will I Learn?

While it is a beginner class, like most of our workshops, it is jam-packed. The goal of all Swinky Life workshops is that when you leave, you have enough knowledge, practical skill, and practice, to run right back to your room (or any other room you are invited to) and get busy, with confidence and with safety.

Some of the high points covered in this workshop include:

Definitions of Rope Terms and Concepts

You will learn the standard terms necessary to discuss tying and rope work in general with a focus on the differences in terms, and the importance of those differences.

Rope Safety Considerations

While nothing we teach in this beginner workshop is in and of itself dangerous in any way, rope work can always become risky depending on when, where, how, and what you try to do. We will discuss very basic ideas of safety that will keep you from making any simple mistakes that could ruin your evening.

Single Column Ties

A single column tie is exactly what it sounds like, a way to attach rope to a single column. A single column can be a wrist, an ankle, a thigh, but also, a chest, or a waist. There are many, many classic and traditional single column ties, but we will pick a universal, simple one to start with.

Double Column Ties

Double column ties attach rope to two columns… such as both wrists, both ankles, both arms, and both legs. But don’t let that be the end of the list… how about one wrist and one ankle? Or one ankle and one thigh? We will transform our single column into a double column and discuss it’s many uses.

Quick Release Tie Off

So, you have single columns and double columns all over your playmate, but then what? How do you secure them to the headboard, the bed posts, or even the legs under the bed? We will teach a simple, generally good way to do that, that solves most of the real world challenges of this kind of play.

Improvisation

You’ve learned some skills… but that’s not all! You can tie wrists, ankles, arms and legs together, and then tie them to something, but is that all? (By the way, that is actually quite a bit.) NO!! These simple tools can be expanded in dozens of ways, and we will quickly demo many of them.

Making Rope Work Romantic

Finally, we will leave the technical behind, and talk a bit about how to make rope work fun, flirty, romantic, and maybe even a little edgy. Everyone does rope their own way, and you will too, we will simply show you some ideas and spark your own imagination.

How is This Class Different?

What makes this workshop different than others you may have taken are the hallmarks of all Swinky Life workshops… this is not a demo, or discussion. This is hands-on and interactive… you will watch us do it once, and then you will do it with us. We will help you, coach you, and encourage you to find your own style when appropriate. You will leave having actually accomplished some level of skill of what we are teaching, certainly enough to immediately start having fun.

What makes this different from other Swinky Life workshops is that it is totally focused on rope. After we cover the basic techniques, we then turn our attention to creativity… so much of this is just a few simple tricks, but it’s what you do with those tricks that make it awesome. We encourage you to be creative while being safe, and truly make this the beginning of your rope journey, not just a class you took.

If you are interested in adding rope play to your bedroom fun, but need to feel a sense of confidence to be able to truly enjoy it, then this is exactly the right workshop for you.
