Last week, we had the incredible experience of hosting our first Swinkation at Hedonism in Jamaica. It was a week filled with meeting, learning, sharing, loving, and laughing. Even now, nearly a week later, I’m still floating on a cloud of euphoria. The best part? We’re doing it again!
What is Swinkation?
Swinkation is our event designed to bring together people who identify as swingers (or any other form of ethical non-monogamy) and those who identify as kinky (or any other alternative relationship style). Our experiences have shown us that those who identify with one often have curiosity about the other. We wholeheartedly encourage this curiosity and the exploration it inspires. Swinkation is our event where we immerse ourselves in these ideas for an entire week. It turns out, that’s a fantastic thing to do!
Our aim is to connect these communities so they can learn from one another. We create a schedule that supports this goal, with classes, workshops, excursions, and nightly social events. These are all geared towards sharing what you love and learning what others love. Some gatherings are very focused, while others are intentionally open-ended to spark conversations that flow freely. Swinkation 2024 truly excelled in this.
What Happens at Swinkation
As our inaugural event, there was a lot of behind-the-scenes work and constant monitoring, but our fantastic promoter, Concations, supported us every step of the way. Once we set up our area, it was time to begin registration and welcome our guests for the week. With a smaller group, it was a perfect opportunity to meet everyone and get acquainted.
Opening Ceremony
We kicked off with our Opening Ceremony—a gathering for those who arrived by the first evening—to outline basic plans, guidelines, and intentions. We introduced ourselves as Swinky Life and shared our hopes for the event. As with all our evening Swinky Socials, the gathering naturally transitioned into a casual meet-and-chat evening, ending with attendees either heading their separate ways or collectively deciding to relax in the hot tub.
Workshops
The next day marked the start of our workshops and day one of the Swinkari Rope Experience, where participants progressed from absolute beginners to mastering full suspension by week’s end.
Our presenter lineup was excellent, covering health, relationships, tantra, and sexual skills. The presenters were top-notch—knowledgeable, passionate about their topics, and genuinely friendly. With such an intimate group and fully engaged presenters attending throughout the week, we quickly built rapport and a sense of personal intimacy that nurtured a strong sense of family and friendship.
Excursions
In addition to remarkable presentations and workshops, day two saw the beginning of our excursions. While often considered an adjunct to events, our excursions are integral to the overall experience. Whether you’re a swinger or a kinkster—or any other lifestyle participant—these outings allow you to shed your “game face” and engage in more typical settings. This shifts conversations and behaviors, enabling genuine connections beyond the sexual or sexualized context. Whether facing challenges at the falls or marveling at the beauty of water caves, these shared experiences deepen relationships. For Swinkation 2024, we organized a day at the falls with optional challenges and a sunset catamaran booze cruise with a stop at the water caves—an unforgettable experience.
Swinkari Rope Experience
The Swinkari Rope Experience was a mini-event within the event. Participants dedicated an hour and a half each day to learning new rope skills, building on each lesson so that by Friday they were ready ypto do their own suspension with minimal assistance. As a rope top, helping someone achieve something they never thought possible with rope is incredibly rewarding and fun, and I enjoyed it tremendously.
Swinky Socials
Each night featured a Swinky Social—a relaxed gathering often focused on discussing not how to do something but why you might want to. We explored the rewards, emotional drivers, and personal benefits of these activities. Sometimes understanding the ‘why’ is more valuable than learning techniques. Throughout the week, these discussions proved to be among the event’s highlights.
It was an unforgettable week of meeting amazing people, getting to know them, and watching an incredible sense of camaraderie develop spontaneously. We concluded with our Closing Ceremony, reflecting on cherished memories and what we’ll take home. It was emotional and beautiful—a fitting end to such a fun event.
The Afterglow
There’s something magical about your first experience—it always holds a special place. Yet this event would have been special even if it weren’t the first. Having attended numerous events and conferences, I recognize when something is truly special—and this was one of those times. To everyone who contributed to making it so special—every single one of you—thank you. There will never be another Swinkation 2024.
