Swinky Life Does Kinky Caribbean

Last weekend, the Swinky Life crew went to Hedo

We went to Hedo, in Jamaica, to be a part of Kinky Caribbean. The upshot of it all is that we had an awesome time, met some amazing people, and enjoyed a wonderfully relaxed Jamaican vibe for an entire week. But, let us tell you how this all happened in the first place!

Through an interesting network of friends who know friends, we were introduced to the Concations team, who run Kinky Caribbean. They appreciated our message of inclusivity and kinky fun as a healthy add on to an already wonderful lifestyle, and have in their own way promoted for the same things at their events. They reached out to us a few months back, and we began to talk about ways we could work together to support each others interests. Ultimately, we agreed that we could make it to their upcoming event, and that it would be a great opportunity to meet everyone and see how the event runs.

Of course, in true Swinky Life fashion, we could not leave good enough alone, and ultimately ended up volunteering to teach four of our workshops while we were there. Since this was a Kink event, being hosted at a Swinger resort, it felt like a perfect event for us. We chose workshops that we felt would resonate well with the attendees, and ultimately ended up teaching Intro to Bedroom Rope Play, Intro to Impact Play, Relationships Unchained, and Bridging the Gap.

If you go to Hedo, join Club Mobay

For the travel part of the trip, other than some airline issues, we had been advised to take advantage of Club Mobay, a service Montego Bay Airport that streamlines your arrival and transfer to the resort. It was without question some of the best money we spent! Toni met us at the bottom of the jetway with a sign with our names on it… she fast tracked us through baggage, and then through customs… and when we say she fast tracked us, seriously, she unhooked the red velvet rope and we strolled past hundreds of people in line, went straight to the kiosk, where she made sure that process went smoothly, then we spent less than 30 seconds talking to customs, and just like that, we were officially in Jamaica. Then, she walked us to Club Mobay itself, where we were treated to free drinks and food, and sat in a comfortable, fun lounge, with several other partiers who were all having their own great time (BEST Happy Birthday we ever heard anyone sing) while we waited on our bus to come get us for the drive. When they arrived, they told us they were ready when we were done with our drinks, and the journey continued. (And I won’t detail it, but we got a very similar experience from Club Mobay on our departure… simply awesome)

We arrive at Hedo

After a short scenic bus ride, we arrived at Hedo. We were checked in, met our hosts, got our room key, and were pointed to the bar and the dining room while our bags were taken to our rooms. Hedo is an all inclusive resort, so you simply eat and drink whatever you want whenever you like. The food is very good, and they have a good collection of custom cocktails as well as a full bar for anything you like. (Shoutout to Dr. Haye for the best Old Fashioned in Hedo)

After getting to our rooms, and unpacking a bit, it was time to check the whole place out. Hedo has two sides, the Nude side, and the Prude side. While the entire resort is clothing optional, you MUST be naked on the nude side, and that is where the main party pool and hot tube are, and it is the primary focal point of swinger activity. The Prude side is still clothing optional and full of great spaces and activities, but you can be dressed if you like, and in our experience, the Prude side is a little more quiet and laid back. Our rooms were on the Prude side, and by the end of the week, we had decided we would get rooms on the Prude side next time as well. (Next time?!?!)

Our rooms were not the fancy rooms, but they were nice, and clean, and perfectly fine. In a resort like this, you usually spend very little time in your room, so that was fine. Still, the mirrors on the ceiling over the bed was a really nice touch.

After getting settled in, we began to explore a bit and meet other event attendees. This is where the week really began to shine. This event draws an amazing collection of attendees, performers and educators, and we were very pleasantly surprised to find that some of them were already very aware of who we were, and anxious to talk with us about their experiences trying to blend swinging into their predominantly kinky lives. We were flattered, and thrilled, and continued to have truly amazing conversations all week long. We hope, and all indications were, we helped in some way with our answers and conversation.

Kinky Caribbean Kicks Off

The next day, the conference began in earnest, and we started attending classes and workshops and getting to know many more of our fellow presenters and attendees. It truly was an amazing group of people, with many different opinions and perspectives on BDSM, Kink, and Relationship Dynamics. It is always fascinating to spend time with people like this, and absorb so many deep, smart, passionate opinions.

In addition to excellent classes and presentations, there were also excursions to go on, to do some non-Hedo fun things with our new friends. While these kinds of things are often just a fun way to blow off half a day, in this case, we found there truly was value in spending some time with these people off site. As we all know, being truly and authentically and unabashedly your authentic self is not always easy, or possible, in public. But in a setting such as Kinky Caribbean, it is strongly encouraged and applauded. So spending three days with these folks in their most full throttle freak flag flying mode, and then spending a day with them hiking up a waterfall… well it is like meeting your new best friend all over again, but different. It gave us an opportunity to see them as more complex, more nuanced, and more rounded than they may appear in full freak mode at a kink convention.

We did the Benta Falls excursion, which was more challenging than we expected, but at the end of the day, we were so happy we went. We also did the Kinky Catamaran sunset ride, which was very relaxing and entertaining.

The classes we taught this week were well received and well attended, and the attendees were all engaged and participative, which as instructors, is just wonderful.

We also had and took the opportunity to tie with a few new friends and have some general rope fun, even out on the beach. It was just an awesome experience all around, we highly recommend it to everyone, and we will definitely be back to Kinky Caribbean again soon.

But Wait!! There’s More!! Welcome to Swinkation!

We were so excited, and so impressed, and things went so well, that we all immediately went full throttle on the other idea we had been discussing for a few weeks, and so, we are absolutely thrilled to announce Swinkation 2024!!

Swinkation will be an even specifically geared to people who blend, or want to blend, some kink into their swinging, or some swinging into their kink. Concations, the amazing people who put on Kinky Caribbean, have given us the opportunity to host our own event, where we will drive the attendee experience, the education, the entertainment, the social events… this will be a Swinky Life event from top to bottom, put on and supported by Concations, so we have great confidence in the foundation we will be building on. And while technically, we are all Swinky Life, I must also point out that The Accidental Swingers will be fully involved in all of this as well, and we are excited to offer this event to both communities, and provide an amazing opportunity to come together, meet people who are already, or at least interested in, blending their swinging and kink in the same way you are interested in, and talk, share, socialize, play, and explore.
